Lighting can be extremely expensive. Even if you go the IKEA route. I’m not a big thrift store/Value Village fan (I cannot stand the smell of those establishments), but I do love to collect antiques. The problem with collecting antiques is that the price tags can get pretty hefty. A beautiful lamp could cost you more than the brand-new one in store! Of course, that’s not why you’re buying that gold 50’s lamp; it’s to dress up your rich mahogany smoking room. Everyone has one, right?
Anyways, lighting can be expensive. Alas, it makes a room brighter, the colours pop, and you know, makes it easy for you to see. Unless you’re living by fire and candle-light (how romantic!), chances are you’re going to have to buy a lamp (or 3) to liven up a room. But, you don’t have to! Here are 3 ways you can brighten up any room without adding yet another lamp:
Plants make everything better. They smell good, they look good, they help with the environment and clean the air. Ahh, breathe in that purified air of your home. Plants are a great way to liven up a room (get it. Because they’re alive?) and make a blah space brighter. Simple greens can take a boring space to a whole other level and can make colours stand out and look richer.
Mirror mirror on the wall, how do I give this room more light? Add a mirror or two to keep the colours, and light from your window, bouncing off one another. Mirrors can make a room look much larger than it is, look cute, plus they make it easy for mid-afternoon make-up touch-ups.
But, fresh flowers aren’t cheap! Well, they are if you get them from your garden. If you don’t have a garden, I strongly suggest you start a fresh cut garden; it’s so lovely to have fresh flowers from your garden all spring, summer and fall. Let me just say it, again: fresh garden flowers.
