Anything can be cooked on the BBQ if you do it right! Once the heat settles in during the summer months, there is no way I want to turn on my stove. So, I turn to my BBQ for most things, mainly meats and regular tinfoil boats of delicious veggies. But, throwing away crumpled ball after crumpled ball of tinfoil each and every time dinner rolls around isn’t the best for the environment. Yeah, it’s not plastic, but it’s still creating trash.

We ended up buying some BBQing mats, letting us still cook everything on the BBQ without throwing away copious amounts of tinfoil. Seriously, they’re the best. My sister-in-law introduced us to these mats and we’ve loved them ever since. Even better? They’re at Costco. Don’t have a Costco membership or don’t feel like blowing your blood pressure? You can grab them on Amazon here.

Sometimes, you don’t want cut up potatoes and veggies, you just want good ol’ french fries. But, you don’t want to start the oven. Becuse it’s roughly 3568993 degrees out. Fair. Just start up the BBQ or make some room on it because you can totally cook french fries on the BBQ. Seriously, BBQ’s are lifesavers and even came in handy last Christmas when we ran out of oven space and needed to keep some things warm! (just make sure your dish is BBQ safe)

Make sure your BBQ isn’t on full blast. That may work for some meats and veggies, but it isn’t going to work for french fries. Essentially, you’re turning your BBQ into an outdoor oven. Crank the dials to medium to get it to 350-400 in there. You don’t want to listen to the package on this round because the BBQ gets a little hotter since they’re closer to the heat source. I assume. I don’t know, I’m not a scientist. It just makes sense to me.

Next, lay your mat down (it doesn’t matter which side you throw down) and wait for the BBQ to warm up. Once it’s hit the desired temperature, pour your french fries onto the mat like you would on a baking sheet in the oven.

French fries cook a little faster in the BBQ and can get A LOT crispier A LOT faster. Which is fine. It just means you need to watch them a little more than you would if they were sitting in the oven. If you’re not into flipping your french fries, like I refuse to do, you’ll need to flip these bad boys a few times.

Once they hit the golden brown colour you so desire, turn off the BBQ and enjoy!

Barely a mess and no extra waste!
