Yep, fancy beer can chicken actually does exist. It’s basically the same thing as regular beer can chicken, but without slathering on the BBQ sauce. Which is also delicious. Honestly, beer can chicken is delicious even if it sounds like trailer trash cooking.

What you will need:

  • a whole chicken
  • 1 beer
  • 1 head of garlic
  • peppercorn
  • 3 lemons
  • 2 tbsp of sugar

Thaw out your chicken completely. Next, wash it out and prep it for cooking.

Crush your garlic in a garlic press and add to the 2 tbsp of sugar. Crush your peppercorns and add to the mix. Juice your lemons and pour into the bowl, mixing well.

Start the BBQ with only one side of the BBQ going and the other side turned WAAAAAAY down. You don’t want it to be too hot, else you’ll burn the chicken.

Drink 1/2 of the designated beer for the chicken.

You can either get a fancy beer can holder, which honestly makes everything easier, or you can try to balance the chicken over the beer can. How are you balancing it? Well, you’re shoving the beer can into the cavity. Yeah, making meat meals isn’t all that nice sounding. Anyways.

Place the chicken over the beer can and put that on an old pie plate or an old cookie sheet. We have a couple of old pie plates that are now are designated beer can chicken stands.

Put the bird on the BBQ, on the side that isn’t hot.

Slather on your garlicy lemony yummy sauce.

Keep bathing it in sauce until it’s crispy and brown. Sometimes, the chicken can get brown a little too fast, so using a meat thermometer is the best bet here.

Once it hits 180/82, enjoy!

If you don’t like your chicken as crispy, wait until the chicken has been on the BBQ for a little longer before adding your sauce.
